CHRIS GREEN MP: It’s time to get back to basics in politics

There is so much noise and confusion around politics that it is not always clear what the fundamentals are.

Fundamentally, politics is about taxes, spending, and the regulations around them. Left-wing politicians like to gain more power with higher taxes, their decisions about where the money goes, and how they impose more laws and regulations on society.

Right-wing politics, generally speaking, prefers that you keep more independence, keep more of your own money, and have a lighter touch in terms of regulation.

The centre-left and the centre-right are obviously not that far apart and that is where the weight of British politics normally lies.

Clearly, some aspects of British political life are becoming increasingly extreme and this is often represented by climate activists preventing ambulances from getting patients to hospital and normal people from getting to work.

These activists are increasingly embracing the bigotry more associated with religious fundamentalists.

Even though many of them are immensely wealthy, they seek to deny others in England and around the world the same opportunities they would never choose to go without.

Climate activism, setting aside claims that every weather event is entirely due to “global warming,” is fundamentally about greater taxation, politicians choosing how to spend their money, and having masses of costly regulations.

COP27 was a major trigger for many pseudo-religious activists. Normally these activists want to overthrow the monarchy and set up their own new form of collectivist government but, for COP27, they are content to forget their normal instincts.

His Majesty King Charles will not participate in COP27 because the British head of state should not get involved in politics. This plagues many climate activists who desperately want him to fly in a private jet to chat with a multitude of others who are also flying in their private jets.

President Biden, deeply concerned about climate change, flew to COP26 in Glasgow in a fleet of seven jet planes. Obviously, the associated carbon emissions are meant to demonstrate how much they care and understand their own beliefs.

Normal people try to save money by writing letters, using the phone, and having online meetings. Climate activists must meet in person…

The wacky ideas of some are rather expensive for you. Just this weekend, Labor announced that, if elected to govern the UK, they would impose a reparations tax that would funnel your money to China, Pakistan and many other countries.

Obviously when they announced it they weren’t comfortable with how it was characterized but the fact is you would be taxed so labor would send even more money to the foreigner because they are so ashamed of our history. The winter is going to be hard enough without Labour’s guilt tax.
