America is in the midst of a dramatic attempt to shift the balance of power between Washington and the states, as well as between the federal government and the citizens. The national government will have extraordinary power to determine your property rights, your transportation options, your purchasing choices, and even your method of voting.
Some action has been taken using the pandemic as an excuse. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis accused Biden of building a “state of biomedical security.”
In addition to the pandemic, environmental extremism is a pretext used by progressive authoritarians.
The Green New Deal, a key effort by the Left Democrats, would place virtually all activity under Washington’s responsibility. Matthew Harwood, writing for Reason, warns that “… we should… pay close attention to the authoritarian impulses of the plan… If the supporters of the Green New Deal are serious – and there is no reason to doubt it – then they propose. … A militaristic America where the heavy hand of Uncle Sam intervenes in all aspects of life, limiting individual freedom in the pursuit of their collectivist goals… They want the power to regiment a society of nearly 330 million people in pursuit of a pipe dream that they compare to a war for survival.
The progressive takeover, aside from the details of the imposition of brutal measures, is blatantly and clearly unconstitutional. He agrees with the social media giants to limit the rights of the First Amendment to those with whom he disagrees and opposes the Second, Ninth and Tenth Amendments, those amendments which serve as the ultimate protection against the accumulation of power in Washington. The Second Amendment grants citizens the right to defend themselves. The Ninth and Tenth Amendments are clear and unambiguous: powers that are not specifically vested in the federal government are reserved for the people and the states.
Once these steps are taken, the safety valve of having the ability to vote against authoritarian disbelievers will no longer be available. An initiative is underway to illegally impose the federal will on the conduct of elections, a power that constitutionally belongs to the states. The misleading name “For the People Act” is an overtly partisan bill that amounts to a clear federal takeover of state election laws, removing vital anti-fraud measures states have established.
As Senator Wicker (R-Mississippi) points out, this would ban voter identification requirements, which are popular across the country and have been adopted in most states, including Democratic-led states like Connecticut. and Rhode Island. This would require states to allow “ballot harvesting,†an illicit practice whereby party members can hand over stacks of ballot papers to polling stations without supervision. It would also require states to allow registration on election day and universal postal voting. Americans vote against this bill when they learn what it really does. A recent poll showed that 83% of Americans are concerned about harvesting ballots, 81% are concerned about polling day registration without a photo ID, and 71% are concerned about universal postal voting.
These measures are all the more disturbing given that citizens do not even know who actually makes the decisions in the White House – the president-elect or the extremist fringes of the Democratic Party. The New York Post Editorial Board recently observed that “America is now ruled not by President Joe Biden, but by a small, radical minority who completely laugh at the US Constitution. Biden made this clear when he gave in to the brigade … and pushed his Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to ban evictions again – knowing full well that he was probably breaking the law and violating his oath to office.
Biden himself noted that this decision is constitutionally questionable, although that did not prevent him from approving it.
